The Labour Party has alleged that backers of President Bola Tinubu are orchestrating actions to instigate conflict in neighboring Niger Republic as a desperate move to enable him to hold onto power. The opposition party claimed that this was part of a broader scheme to create chaos and divert the attention of the Presidential Election Petition Court from addressing the pending petitions.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a campaign to tarnish the reputation of the Labour Party in an effort to defame it.
Obiora remarked, “The Labour Party has been made aware of yet another desperate attempt by the struggling ruling party (APC) to tarnish its image in their quest to sow disorder and unrest to legitimize their illegitimate victory. Accusing Labour Party supporters of posing a threat to the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) is the culmination of the ruling party’s endeavor to shift blame through their orchestrated online activities.”
He added, “This recent tactic involves a photograph supposedly depicting a PEPC judge with some children, and it has been cleverly designed to divert attention from the open intimidation by their legal representatives, who warned the PEPC Justices of potential chaos if the court rules against their client. The record clearly shows that it was they who pledged to create chaos if Tinubu is ousted. Yet they are now invoking the specter of war with Niger Republic in an attempt to prevent Tinubu’s legal removal.”
“Labour Party has presented a solid and clear case within the bounds of the law, and we remain confident that the justices will fulfill their legal obligations based on the evidence and the law. Therefore, the Labour Party does not require any threats to ensure the delivery of fair justice. It’s becoming evident that the ruling party is jittery and apprehensive about the truth, resorting to manufacturing false narratives and labeling the Labour Party to gain fictitious support.”
“We urge the public to dismiss this baseless label attached to the Labour Party, as they are aware of who is truly panicking and striving to sow unrest in the country in a bid to hold onto power illegitimately. We firmly believe in the integrity of our judicial system and expect that justice will be administered solely based on the Constitution and prevailing laws, and not through trolling or deceitful actions by the ruling party, which is desperately clinging to power without the mandate of the people.”
